Harley's Haven

in home privately run rescue for birds

Diamond (African Grey)   who has been in the rescue for 3 years.  Diamond is not a people bird at all.  But found a wonderful home where they will love him/her even though they may never be able to hold Diamond.  They are happy just to interact with Diamond.
Here is a clip on an update on Diamond for his new Family.

Diamond seems to be doing very well, he took a major bath this morning the second I changed his water. He was diving in it and made such a mess! He had a ball. He was cooing and making all sorts of noises.

He likes the dog and blows him kisses. He likes to sit right on the perch at the front of the cage sticking his beak out. he has let me touch him. I am very very careful. I just quickly stroke his wing and then say something to him. He has not tried to bite so far, but I am still being careful. I have touched his claws while he crawls up and down in the cage and he doesn't seem to mind it so far.

He says hello to angel every morning when i uncover her cage, its so cute

Here is an update The rescue recieved from the new parnets of an Jenday conure that was in the rescue waiting for a new home.

She is a healthy weight and eating fine at home.  She is getting more and more social. I occasionally have to force her out of the cage, but once she's out she doesn't want to go back in and will squeak at us and climb back to the cage door if we put her back in.  Yesterday we took her on a picnic dinner and I think she enjoyed being outside.  I hang grapes in her cage - they are her favorite fruit and I hope it gives her a motivation to climb around and improve her climbing  skills. Oh, I asked the vet about the zinc paint and she recommended wiping down the cage 1/week to remove any paint powder - the vet thought powder from the paint would be more to worry about than Olive nibbling on the cage.  But, the vet said she runs into very little zinc poisoning and she said it is difficult to detect so to be safe, just wipe down the cage often.  I attached a couple pictures of Olive with us - Thank you for matching us with her - she is a sweet little bird and we love spending time with her.

Here is an update of a cockatiel that was adopted from the rescue.

Just to let you know, Samantha and "Zuki" did great together this weekend. I think that they are already attached to each other. We enjoyed visiting and really appreciated your help matching her up with her new pet. We also talked about what a good person you are to do what you do, despite the challenges of keeping so many animals. Thanks again, Laura

another cockatiel that was adopted from the rescue

Hi- i don't know if you remember me but i am the girl

back. I have named her Zuki and she is a wonderful!
she is cuddley, and playful, and i am totally thrilled
with her.  Thank you for helping me pick her out!

this an amazon that was adopted from the rescue

I wanted to let you know Peedy is doing great.  He loves hanging out with me when I am on puter , he even types a few things of his own.
When I type I think he tries to play he will bob his head back and forth and  grab my fingers, then turn around and look at me. He is very gentle when he does this, and then tap his beak on the desk. He has a wonderful personality!!!!
He seems to like it when I sew, he even helps pull the material through lol
He doesn't like watching me do the dishes much he would rather check out stuff on the counter.
He likes hiding out in my sweatshirt or sitting on my lap.
I was talking to my son the other night with the web cam on, he didn't know what to make of it. He would run down my arm jump on the puter table and knock over the web cam and run back up, almost like a game. over and over and over again. lol
He is wonderful, I love him!!!!

Another cockatiel found a great home

Bert made the transition in remarkable fashion..  Yesterday morning he was preening (very "full" feathers--puffed up for most of the day--is this "okay"?).  No vocalizations of any kind, though he did "step up" in his cage for both Sam and me and also spent a few minutes, with cage door open and on his own, exploring the outside of his cage before I asked him to step up.

This morning he did respond (and maybe sent out a couple of calls on his own?) to wild birdsong coming in through the window.

And, we send thanks for the work you're doing and the new member of our family!!!!

I'm advertising your services with friends here who might be good bird parents.  Should any of them be in contact directly with you, I will let you know.

THANK YOU!!!  We love Bert already.
